In westernized cultures, tantra is glamorized by its sexual context. However, tantra isn't just about having multiple orgasms or performing prolonged sexual intercourse. Since sex sells, that's the part of tantra that tends to attract people to the practice. However, tantra is not so different from yoga.
Sadhguru talked about tantra in an interview and stated how tantra can be translated to an inner technology: a subjective method to experience beyond the physical and into the nonphysical. Let's take for instance, experiencing an orgasm. If you have ever experienced one, you can relate the experience to the nonphysical sensation of pleasure. I relate the sensation of pleasure as nonphysical because it's something that isn't just experienced by the five senses. It's what comes after experiencing through the senses. You can't physically see, taste, hear, smell, nor touch pleasure. Pleasure is a nonphysical experience.
Nonphysical pleasure isn't just experienced in an intimate setting behind closed doors, but it can be experienced in the most innocent of acts. It can be experienced when eating your favorite dish, smelling a lovely aroma or when positively reacting through the five senses. But remember, pleasure isn't the five senses itself it's the feeling when you experience through the senses. Pleasure is a subjective experience and tantra is an inner tool to access the full spectrum of pleasure. Tantra can shift the way you experience the cool outdoor breeze, the dramatic music in a film or how you communicate with a friend.
When people say it was a pleasure to meet you, think of tantra as a way to genuinely feel that pleasure rather than the vague feeling of a neutral and polite exchange.
