I am discovering that I am a kinesthetic-visuospatial learner: a learning style that highlights physical activity and the relational perception of space and objects. I'm frequently on the search for ways to self-care. Little did I know that majoring in Kinesiology (study of body mechanics) and minoring in Psychology (study of the mind and behaviors) for my undergraduate would be the start of my self-care practices. With my self-care practice in yoga and a newly addition of hooping, my interest in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Somatic Studies is blossoming!
As a kinesthetic-visuospatial learner, there's just something about intuitively moving the body through space and integrating the breath with time that I find therapeutic. Learning how to utilize a physical activity to connect with the body-mind gives access to emotional content within the space that houses the soul/spirit.
There's a unique timeline with your emotional content. In spirituality, some may refer your emotional content to the chakra systems. In psychology, some may refer to Erikson's theory in psychosocial development. Emotional content tends to store within the deep tissues of the body and the inner space of the psyche just waiting to be experienced, healed if necessary, and most definitely honored. It's up to the mind and soul/spirit to allow this emotional content to flow. As a kinesthetic-visuospatial learner, I say let the emotional content flow!
