While I'm just starting my Master's program in the fall, I'm excited to continue and direct my attention into the realm of Somatic Studies: a therapeutic and holistic approach to the mind-body connection. Somatic Studies looks at the holistic body and ways to connect that fosters healing/honoring. It is a study of the body that fosters self-therapy and connection. I plan to pursue my PhD in this field. What got me hooked to learn more was yoga, my background in Kinesiology, and my new love for hula hooping!
Yoga helps me look beyond the surface and past the physical components of the practice to see that there is a process to be observed and honored. Kinesiology taught me how to study the mechanics of body movement and discover the potential in movement-based practices. Hula hooping is helping me uncover the freedom of the visual-spatial dance and play - with play, I'm connecting to my inner child that fuels my curiosity as a Forever Student in academics and of the Universe.
